This is an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal to join our busy Family department as cover for maternity leave for a fixed term one year contract.

The role will involve assisting the International Children team. You will be required to attend court hearings in Bristol and London, attend in person and remote client meetings with case handlers and undertake administrative duties such as Legal Aid applications, High Cost Case Plans,  billing and compiling court bundles.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Attending court with counsel, taking detailed notes;
  • Attending client meetings, taking detailed notes;
  • Completing and submitting legal aid applications;
  • Drafting letters and documents including court applications;
  • File maintenance;
  • Preparing court bundles;
  • Effective use of our internal case management system;
  • Communicating with clients, expert witnesses and solicitors;
  • Legal aid admin including dealing with High Cost Case plans and billing;
  • Any additional duties as required.

 

Skills/Competencies required:

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent spelling and grammar;
  • Good organisational skills and pro-active approach;
  • To be able to prioritise work and pay strict attention to detail;
  • Ability to use own initiative and work to strict deadlines;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Numerate and comfortable with figures;
  • Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Experience in family law and legal aid

Education

  • GCSE level English and Maths (or equivalent) is essential;
  • Law degree/LPC/CILEx qualification is desirable but not essential;
  • A Family elective or module studied at university or college would be advantageous.
