Trainee Asset CAD Technician

Our Vacancy
We are looking for a motivated and detail-focused Trainee Asset CAD Technician to join our Asset team within Operations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in CAD, technical drawing, utilities or construction to begin or develop a technical career, with full training and support provided.
In this role, you will help produce, digitise and maintain accurate CAD drawings and as-laid records for Gas, Electricity, Water and Fibre utility infrastructure projects, learning to use AutoCAD and internal systems to convert site sketches, GPS data and technical drawings into accurate final records.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Learning to produce, update and maintain accurate digital as-laid records using site sketches, GPS information, technical drawings and internal systems.
- Creating and amending 2D CAD drawings using AutoCAD and other approved drawing software.
- Checking drawing information for accuracy and completeness, raising any issues or missing information and seeking guidance where needed.
- Supporting the delivery of drawings within agreed timescales, service levels and quality standards.
- Providing CAD and drawing support to the Asset, Technical and Operations teams, including Gas, Electricity, Water and Fibre teams.
- Providing a helpful and professional service to colleagues, customers and external clients.
- Using Microsoft 365 applications and supporting general Asset team administration and improvement activities as your knowledge and skills develop.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about learning and interested in developing a career within CAD and utility infrastructure.
You will ideally have:
- A keen interest in CAD, technical drawings, utilities or construction.
- Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to checking information.
- Basic analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The confidence to ask questions and seek support when needed.
- A proactive, motivated and positive approach to learning.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work towards deadlines with guidance and support.
- Good general IT skills, including Microsoft 365 applications.
- An awareness of customer service and continuous improvement.
Experience and Qualifications
- No previous CAD employment experience is required, as full training will be provided.
- Some exposure to AutoCAD, 2D drafting, technical drawings, network records, construction records or utilities would be advantageous, but is not essential.
- An interest in Gas, Electricity, Water or Fibre utility infrastructure would be beneficial.
- Most importantly, you should have a genuine willingness to learn, develop your technical skills and build your knowledge within the role.
