This is a Permanent, full time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

Please note that this vacancy may close early if sufficient applications are received.

Purpose:
We are currently looking for a Trainee Paralegal to join our Employment team and the successful applicant could be based either in Bristol or Leeds. The purpose of the role is to assist the existing team in running their caseload of Employment Tribunal files.

Work is mostly claimant litigation, with some respondent litigation. If successful, you will be involved in assisting a varied and interesting case load, including complex discrimination and protected disclosure cases and plenty of scope for developing legal skills in a friendly, collegiate environment. You will have the opportunity to be involved in assisting at every stage of the process of an Employment Tribunal claim. This would therefore be the ideal role for someone interested in developing into an employment law case handler.

Hybrid working:  This role would be based in either our Bristol or Leeds office, with a combination of home and office working (working at least 2 days in the Bristol or Leeds city centre office and 3 days from home). You would therefore need the infrastructure in place to work from home and will be provided with a company laptop.

Hours: The successful candidate will work 7 hours a day, 35 hours a week, (two days in office, three days from home), between the core working hours of 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Setting up new files and making initial client contact;
  • Assisting existing case handlers with their case load of Employment Tribunal claims, including preparing bundles of documents, schedules of loss and witness statements, obtaining instructions and documents from clients, liaising with other parties or the Employment Tribunal, and instructing counsel or advocates as necessary;
  • Complying with service level agreements;
  • Dealing with file conclusion administration including billing.

Skills/Competencies required:

  • The ability to prioritise your work and manage competing demands and tasks from members of the team;
  • Knowledge of employment law and legal experience in a law firm helpful, but not essential as training will be given as and when required;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Effective people skills (able to communicate clearly and get on with colleagues, clients, other side solicitors etc);
  • The ability to work as part of a team;
  • The ability to work to strict deadlines;
  • An organised approach to your work; and
  • A positive attitude.

A successful offer of employment is subject to a basic credit check & a basic DBS check.
