This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

We currently have an opportunity to work from home as a Valuation Technical Specialist / Revenues Technician, forming part of our virtual NNDR shared service centre. The role will include a combination of valuations, recovery and housekeeping work; ensuring that the rating list is accurate whilst reviewing and administering high value business rates accounts, handling complex financial queries and supporting our customers to find solutions to difficult issues. You will be expected to manage challenging situations to conclusion, taking full ownership of the outcome and embracing first contact resolution as a standard approach.

The successful candidate will help support a network of staff who are contractually responsible for answering a range of technical queries from ratepayers, agents and solicitors; updating and administering Business Rates accounts across a number of systems (Northgate, Academy, Information@Work & Civica).

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Undertake all aspects of valuation work, including schedules, billing authority reports and reconciliations;
  • Undertake debt chasing and oversee recovery processes;
  • Manage various housekeeping reports and exercises for NNDR
  • Support\mentor colleagues with their development
  • Quality monitoring and training
  • Update documentation from a variety of sources to ensure NNDR accounts are accurate
  • Timely action of client requests
  • Complaints and FOI requests
  • To support operational service delivery to clients
  • Comply with corporate HR and Health & Safety policies and procedures.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Ability to demonstrate a sound understanding of business rates legislation and practise;
  • Experience of undertaking valuation duties;
  • Experience of using Academy/Northgate/Information@Work & Civica systems desirable;
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent with minimum 5 grades A-C including English and Maths;
  • Evidence of delivering a first class service to a diverse range of customers from initial point of contact;
  • Experience of gathering, organising and managing information;
  • Being responsive, customer-focused and committed to customer care;
  • Experience in working in a busy office environment;
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach to working patterns to meet business peaks and troughs.

Security vetting and checks:

All successful candidates must meet the government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).

  • External candidates: The BPSS includes a basic criminal record check (for unspent convictions). There will also be an Adverse Financial Check (AFC) which will be renewed annually. An Adverse Finance Check looks for CCJs, IVAs, bankruptcies, Scottish decrees, or Administration Orders.
  • Internal candidates: An annual adverse finance check will be required.
