Education Payroll & Pensions Specialist

Join us in shaping the future of payroll software for schools and trusts

We're looking for an experienced education payroll professional to help drive the development of Every Payroll, our payroll and pensions software designed specifically for the education sector.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has spent their career running or supporting payroll for schools, MATs, or Local Authorities and wants to use that expertise in a different way.

You do not need previous Product Management experience. What matters most is your deep understanding of education payroll, pensions, legislation, and the day-to-day challenges faced by schools and trusts.

Working closely with our Product Director, software engineers, and managed service teams, you'll act as the voice of the customer and the subject matter expert behind new system enhancements.

You'll help ensure our software remains compliant, accurate, and fit for purpose as payroll and pension requirements continue to evolve.

What you'll be doing

  • Using your education payroll expertise to influence and shape future product enhancements.
  • Translating payroll, pension, and legislative requirements into clear system improvements.
  • Reviewing payroll calculations, pension submissions, and statutory outputs to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Supporting the design, testing, and rollout of new functionality.
  • Providing expert guidance on education payroll processes, pay scales, and pension schemes.
  • Working closely with development teams to explain requirements and answer payroll-related questions.
  • Troubleshooting complex payroll and pension issues and helping identify long-term solutions.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and customers to understand challenges and improve user experience.
  • Identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency gains, and improved self-service functionality.

What we're looking for

We're interested in speaking with professionals who have substantial experience in:

  • End-to-end UK education payroll.
  • Payroll processing for Local Authority schools, Multi-Academy Trusts, and/or Single Academy Trusts.
  • The Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS) and Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
  • Pension submissions and reporting, including schemes and interfaces such as MDC, MCR, iConnect, Civica UPM, WYPF, and similar.
  • Experience with education payroll software such as Every Payroll, iTrent, Cintra, or similar platforms.
  • Interpreting payroll outputs and resolving payroll or pension calculation queries.
  • Keeping up to date with legislative, pension, and compliance changes affecting the education sector.

It would be great if you also have

  • Experience supporting payroll system implementations, upgrades, or migrations.
  • Exposure to Agile ways of working, ticket management tools, or software development teams.
  • A CIPP qualification or equivalent payroll certification.

Why this role is different

It's an opportunity to take the education payroll knowledge you've built over your career and use it to influence the future direction of a payroll platform used by schools and trusts across the UK.

You'll work alongside product and engineering specialists while becoming the go-to expert for education payroll and pensions within the business.

If you're passionate about education payroll, enjoy solving complex problems, and want to make a broader impact across the sector, we'd love to hear from you.
