First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) have an exciting opportunity for a Building Safety Officer to join our Property Safety team and help keep our customers safe in their homes.

This is an exciting time to join FCHO as building safety continues to evolve. You'll play a key role in shaping how building safety is delivered across our higher-risk buildings, helping ensure we continue to meet evolving legislation while making a genuine difference to the safety and wellbeing of our customers.

Working closely with our Fire Safety Manager and colleagues across the organisation, you'll help deliver a proactive approach to building safety that puts our customers at the heart of everything we do.

The impact you'll make

You'll help develop and maintain Building Safety Cases, coordinate inspections, manage fire safety compliance and work with residents, contractors and regulators to continually improve the safety of our homes.

You will:

  • Develop and maintain Building Safety Cases for higher-risk buildings.
  • Support compliance with the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety legislation and other statutory requirements.
  • Carry out inspections of completed and ongoing works to ensure safety standards are met.
  • Coordinate and monitor actions arising from Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Manage building safety information and support the development of accurate Golden Thread records.
  • Work closely with contractors, consultants and internal teams to ensure building safety risks are effectively managed.
  • Engage with residents to provide clear information and build confidence around building safety.
  • Support planned preventative maintenance programmes for fire safety systems and equipment.
  • Help ensure FCHO continues to deliver safe, compliant homes for our customers.

Our ideal candidate

You'll be passionate about keeping people safe and confident working in a building safety, fire safety or property compliance environment. You'll enjoy working collaboratively, solving problems and helping ensure our homes remain safe, compliant and well managed.

You'll have:

  • An HNC/HND in Building Services Engineering or an equivalent qualification (essential).
  • A MIFSM qualification (or equivalent) or be willing to work towards achieving it (essential).
  • Experience working in building safety, fire safety or statutory compliance.
  • A good understanding of building safety legislation, fire safety legislation and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
  • Knowledge of housing compliance, building regulations and fire safety construction within residential buildings.
  • Experience applying Approved Document B and relevant design guidance to ensure compliance.
  • Experience maintaining compliance records, carrying out inspections and managing remedial actions.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

It would also be great if you have:

  • A NEBOSH Fire Certificate or equivalent.
  • Professional membership of IOSH, the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) or another recognised fire safety body.
  • Experience carrying out Fire Risk Assessments and Health & Safety risk assessments.
  • Experience supporting structural investigations and working closely with contractors.
  • Experience analysing fire safety inspection data and coordinating remedial works.
  • A full UK driving licence.
