The Vacancy
We are recruiting a Senior Analyst to play a key role in developing data and analytics for one of the most significant transformation programmes in the history of the Family Justice System.
Cafcass’ Private Law Reform programme is reshaping how services are delivered to children and families, supporting the creation of Child Focused Courts across the Family Justice System in England. In this role, you will provide the technical data capability to underpin the reform, designing and developing robust data architecture, scalable reporting solutions, and high-quality analytical products that directly inform delivery and decision-making.
This is a hands-on senior technical build role, requiring strong expertise in data architecture, data modelling, SQL development, Power BI and advanced Excel within a complex, multi-source data environment.
You will take ownership of the design, build and optimisation of data pipelines, data models and reporting products, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable and aligned to programme needs, whilst complementing existing organisational data products and standards. This is not a pure insight role you will operate across the full technical stack, from raw data through to production-ready reporting.
You will bring substantial experience (typically 5+ years) in a data analyst, BI developer or similar technical role.
As a Senior Analyst in the Data & Analytics team your key responsibilities will include:
- Design, build and maintain end-to-end data solutions from ingestion through to reporting.
- Develop and optimise SQL-based data pipelines and transformations.
- Lead development of Power BI solutions, including data models (DAX) and performance optimisation.
- Apply advanced Excel techniques to support modelling and analytical validation.
-- Integrate and model data from multiple systems ensuring governance, documentation and quality.
- Develop automated, scalable reporting products.
- Identify trends, risks and variation through advanced technical analysis.
- Provide technical leadership and assurance on solution design.
Who we are looking for
The importance of this strategic programme of work to Cafcass and the wider sector in which we operate cannot be overstated. Reflecting this, we have some clear requirements:
- Substantial technical experience (typically 5+ years).
- Strong technical background in data architecture, modelling and reporting development.
- Advanced SQL skills.
- Strong Power BI development expertise (including DAX).
- Advanced Excel skills including complex modelling and data manipulation.
- Experience across the full data lifecycle.
- Ability to translate complex operational requirements into robust, scalable analytical and data solutions.
- Working knowledge of modern data platforms and architectures (e.g. cloud-based data warehousing, Fabric or equivalent technologies).
- Awareness of AI and automation capabilities within Microsoft environments (e.g. Copilot, Power Platform, AI Builder or equivalent) and their application to analytical workflows.
- Experience of developing or supporting automated data pipelines, reporting processes or workflow automation.
- It may be an advantage if you have experience of working in the public sector and even better if you have experience of working within the Family Justice System.
- Experience working within a significant transformation programme is desirable, but not essential.
We are expecting a lot of interest in this role, so we encourage you to please ensure the above – and any of the other key requirements we have (please refer to the job description, which is a ‘vacancy document’) – is clearly demonstrated in your CV and/or application form.
Although this is a permanent role within Cafcass, we welcome applications from candidates seeking a long-term secondment from public sector partner organisations. This opportunity may particularly suit individuals with experience of working within, or alongside, the Family Justice System, who are looking to contribute their expertise to a nationally significant reform programme while further developing their technical and analytical capability in a complex, multidisciplinary environment.
Where will you work?
There will be some travel - we have 30+ offices across England – and you can also expect to meet with your manager and team at regular intervals in-person, especially during your induction, as we know the value of this for colleagues. However, you can also expect to work remotely too, and we provide excellent equipment and technical support for you to do this. We can discuss what this might look like if we have the chance to speak with you.
As an organisation, we’re proud of the extensive wellbeing support available for colleagues, as well as excellent benefits, all of which we hope encourages you to work within our dedicated team.
Applications
If you’re preparing to apply, we encourage you not to rely heavily on AI tools when creating your application. While we recognise the benefits AI can offer, your application should reflect your own experience, insights, and motivations. This helps us genuinely understand what you will bring to the role.
Applications that appear to contain generalised or inauthentic content may limit our ability to assess your suitability, and where it is clear that AI has been used, it may affect our decision-making during the screening process.
Please ensure your application clearly demonstrates your technical capability and experience.
