A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a Healthcare Support Worker Apprentice to join our Inpatient Services team.

Working as part of our friendly multidisciplinary team, you’ll be responsible for supporting patients nearing the end of their lives, ensuring their care is compassionate, respectful and dignified. This role requires kindness, resilience and a genuine passion for helping others in a sensitive and rewarding environment.

 

You will benefit from a 12-month apprenticeship with 20% protected learning time, studying towards a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care with Newcastle-under-Lyme College. There may also be the opportunity to secure a permanent position upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support patients with personal care needs such as washing, dressing, feeding and toileting
  • Monitor patient comfort and report any changes to the clinical team
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families during difficult times
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records
  • Work collaboratively with nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Ensure dignity, respect and compassion are at the heart of all care provided
  • Participate in training and development as part of the apprenticeship programme

 

About You

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, motivated and eager to develop a career in healthcare.

  • GCSE grades A*–D (9–3) in Maths and English (or equivalent Functional Skills Level 1–2)
  • A passion for developing new skills and knowledge
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • A caring and compassionate nature
  • A desire to support people who are living with a life-limiting illness
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including shifts, weekends and bank holidays

Salary: £15,642.90 (+antisocial pay)

Hours: 37.5 hr per week working Mon to Sun - 7.5 hour shifts on days.

(Nights may be required at 9hrs per shift)
