Essential and Desirable Criteria

Essential criteria

Experience

  • Experience of working directly with young people and/or adults
  • Experience of working within safeguarding or managing safeguarding concerns
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently, managing own workload
  • Experience of working with external agencies and stakeholders

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C / 4 or above (or equivalent)
  • Willingness to complete appropriate Safeguarding Officer training within the first six weeks of employment

Skills and abilities

  • Ability to problem solve and make quick, well‑informed decisions in challenging situations
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and take initiative in a fast‑paced, changing environment
  • Excellent ICT skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with professionals, parents and young people
  • Excellent organisational and record‑keeping skills
  • Reliable, trustworthy and able to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Enthusiastic and proactive, with a commitment to developing services and positive working relationships
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends, and able to work across College sites when required

 


 

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in an educational setting
  • Educated to degree level
  • Counselling, Mentoring or Health & Social Care qualification
  • Understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation, including types of abuse, neglect and associated risk factors
