Our busy, multi‑disciplinary team works on a wide range of infrastructure projects, with increasing internal requests for specialist geotechnical support.

The Role

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering geotechnical design and technical support across the business. This includes ground investigations, design calculations, GIRs, GDRs, Mining Risk Assessments, and geo-related input across D&E schemes.

This role is essential in ensuring continuity and resilience within the geotechnical function, responding to a growing internal demand for specialist expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and geotechnical design input across multidisciplinary schemes
  • Scope, plan, supervise and interpret ground investigations
  • Deliver and review GIRs, GDRs and Mining Risk Assessments (MRAs)
  • Develop geotechnical solutions for shallow and deep foundations, earthworks, slopes, retaining structures, and ground treatment
  • Undertake desk studies using geological, historical and mapping datasets
  • Collaborate with internal teams including civils, earthworks, rail, stations/property and engineering
  • Use geotechnical software such as GEO5 or LimitState:GEO
  • Ensure compliance with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes and safe‑by‑design principles
  • Support mentoring, coaching and knowledge sharing across the team

 

About You

You will bring strong technical capability, clear communication skills and a proactive approach to problem‑solving. This role suits someone who enjoys working on varied rail and civil engineering projects and contributing across multiple stages of design.

Qualifications Required:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology
  • CSCS card
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (ICE, IMMM or Geological Society), ideally working towards ‘RoGEP’ accreditation
  • Full UK driving license

 

Desired:

  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations
  • Experience with mining risk assessments or similar hazard-led assessments
  • Familiarity with UK ground conditions and monitoring techniques
