We have an exciting opportunity in our Newport Dialysis Unit for an ambitious, patient focused Healthcare Assistant looking for a rewarding career in healthcare with opportunities for professional development.

This is a physically demanding role in a fast-paced environment.

Newport Dialysis Unit is a dynamic 30 station unit providing haemodialysis treatment for 120 patients in partnership with the NHS Trust. The unit operates safe staffing with a protected 3:1 patient to nurse ratio.

This position provides the successful candidate with an excellent opportunity to develop existing skills whilst gaining further experience.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • To provide general assistance to nursing staff with patient care in the treatment room
  • To liaise with transport and other departments in order to arrange appointments
  • To support the unit routine, by escorting patients to the wards, blood specimens and pharmacy errands
  • To prepare and serve patients with refreshments
  • To prepare a safe water treatment supply
  • Preparation of the clinical area
  • To maintain stocks and supplies within the treatment areas
  • To undertake housekeeping duties

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn
  • Good communication skills
  • Numerical and literacy skills
  • To be able to demonstrate empathy and sympathy
  • Adaptable
  • Self-motivated
  • Flexible to cover the needs of the patients/unit
  • To demonstrate a willingness to learn

Hours of work:

  • Full time role working 37.5 hours per week
  • 3 x 11.5 hour shifts per week plus an additional top up shift every month
  • Long Day = 06:45 - 18:15
  • Monday to Saturday on a rota’d shift system, No Sunday or night shifts
  • We expect staff to work flexibly and work shifts depending on the need of the business
